Shining Daughters are blogging!

Shining Daughters has many new and upcoming events in store for the Bay Area. We figured blogging would be a great way to keep the community abreast of what we're doing to help our daughters shine!

To catch you up to speed, Shining Daughters is a nonprofit founded in the state of California by social workers, Markita Mays and Socorro M. Reynoso. Shining Daughters became incorporated on July 9th, 2009. All documents have been submitted for 501(c)(3) filing and we anxiously await a reply!

To date, we are formulating our Board of Directors. A few of the individuals who have accepted a position on the Board are Ray Leon, Policy Analyst for the City of Oakland, Michael Orange, Founder of Top Ten Social Club, Nancy Ellinger, LCSW, Laura Zapiain, 3L at Stanford Law, and Bryan Parker of 100 Black Men of the Bay Area, Alpha Phi Alpha, and VP of Special Projects at DaVita. Within the next few weeks, we will add additional members and have hopes to confirm our Board by January of 2010.

Shining Daughters would like to give a special thank you to Ray Young, III for his generous donations and commitment to helping our daughters shine. Thank you, Ray!

We look forward to hosting multiple social events and workshops within the next few months. By September 2010, Shining Daughters should be a fully funded and operating nonprofit in Oakland.

Please stay tuned for more, become our Facebook fan, and check out our website at www.shiningdaughters.com.
